Coming of Age Film Coursework

Locations:

  • Alley way
  • Bedroom (some private hang out for group discussion)
  • School
  • Park

Themes:

  • Mystery
  • Thriller
  • Romance
  • Arrogance

Music:
Something that is tense like jaws theme tune and also a contradicting happy music.

Structure:

  • Act 1:Main character, popular mean girl, bullying others and only cares about herself. A day in the normal life.
  • Act 2: She discovers some form of communication towards an unknown person who sends her notes everyday with someones name and that person goes missing. Fails a couple times trying to solve it.
  • Act 3: She changes and realises she doesn't need to be horrible to everyone to be liked.

Unique Feature:
It is a coming of age film based on a mean girl becoming good because of traumatic experience.

How does it target; Males, Females and young people?
It targets teens as it is a relatable to every teen going through high school as high school holds a wide variety of different types of teens. It is also quite a different storyline which may attract the audience as they are less likely going to find out what will happen in the end.

Sound:

  • Voice Over: The narration would be describing what is actually happening in the shot.
  • Background Music: The beginning should start with slow music to match the slow cuts and then when it speeds up there will me music a bit more fast tempo and possibly eerie.

Editing:
The cuts at the beginning of the trailer will be slow and then they will speed up later on when the trailer shows glimpses of the problem and when the characters are panicking.

Cinematography:
As this story is only based on one person, there will be quite a few mid shots and close ups. The mid shots will often show the main character at the centre to show that she is the centre of the attention. There will also be close ups on not just the main character but also objects like the source she is getting the clues from and also there will be close ups of the shoes.
For the scary scenes there will be a fast paced zoom and tracking will be used almost throughout the story as we are watching the main character grow as a person.

Mise en Scene:
The main character will be wearing stereotypical girly clothing as she is the popular mean girl and all the other characters would be in normal clothing except for the girl that goes missing, she will wear clothes that are too big for her. This shows the stereotypical hierachy that is placed on teens within a high school.
Natural lighting will mainly be used to show the realism of school life.
Main prop that will be used is the object that gives the main character the clues
It will be set in quite basic teen life settings as shown above for my locations.

How will the font and animation of your titles reflect the style of the character?
As the main character is girly the title will either be in a fancy font with a mature colour like purple or a green, or it will be in bright pink but a sophisticated font.
The animation of the title will be bubbly but then normal, come in quite fast but then settle calmly.

Intertextual References:

Subverted Stereotypes:
The mean girl is not actually mean. The girl getting bullied is not actually a complete loner loser.

Direct Appeal:
How will you communicate a clear point of view and ideological message appropriate to the 'industrial context'?
